Chief
Frederick Brown - Chief Of Police
Chief Brown is a Vietnam-era combat veteran who
served in the Air Force as a Security Policeman from
1967 to 1971. He began his law enforcement career in
1973 with the Rapid City Police Department in South
Dakota. During his tenure with that city, he became a field-training officer advancing
to the rank of Sergeant in 1979 and to the rank of
Lieutenant in 1980. While assigned as a
Lieutenant, he was assigned many duties and tasks including Shift
Commander. He then became a Detective Lieutenant in charge of
Crimes against Property and Persons, advancing to
Accreditation Manager to manage their CALEA
certification.
In 1997 he accepted the position of Chief of Police for
the Urbana, Ohio Police Department and subsequently
obtained national CALEA accreditation for Urbana while
making many other operational improvements. In 2001 he
accepted the position of Chief of Police for the Auburn,
Georgia Police Department and in 2003 left Auburn to
become Chief of Police for the City of Fairburn,
Georgia. He then returned to the Auburn Police Department
in August of 2004. Chief Brown holds a Masters Degree from the
University of South Dakota, a Bachelor’s Degree from
Black Hills State University and is a graduate of the
FBI National Academy. He is also a member of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of
Police, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Winder Veterans of Foreign Wars and the
Vietnam Security Police Association. |

Lt. Danny Kerns - Patrol Commander
Lt. Kerns started his career in the
military back in 1966. He has served his country for a period of
four years with the 101st Airborne until 1970. He received his
training at Fort Benning, Ga. and served two tours of duty in
Vietnam. Lt. Kerns began his law enforcement career at the East
Texas Police Academy in 1990. Since then, he has served with the
Panola County Sheriff’s Dept. from 1990 to 1994, the Clarke County
Sheriff’s Dept. from 1994 to 1996, the Barrow County Sheriff’s Dept.
from 1996 to2000 and finally with the Auburn Police Department from
2000 to the present day.
Lt. Kerns currently has over 900 hours
of specialized training in Hostage Negotiations, Supervision, First
Responder, Field Training Officer, and is a member of the Crisis
Intervention Team. In his career he has received three awards
including Officer of the Year in 1996 with the Barrow County
Sheriff’s Office and Officer of the Year in 2001 which was awarded
by the Winder Barrow Lions Club while working for the Auburn Police
Dept. Also that same year, he received the Medal of Valor. Lt. Kerns
currently serves the Auburn Police Dept. as the Commander in charge
of the Uniform Patrol Division. |

Lt. Lee Lapsky - CID Commander
After serving two years in
the United States Navy, Lt. Lapsky began his career in
law enforcement with the Clarke County Sheriff's
Department in 1992. He continued his career as a reserve
officer for the City of Winterville Police Department in
1998, until he went to work for the City of Arcade
Police Department in late 1998. He stayed with the City
of Arcade until he joined the City of Auburn Police
Department in 2001.
Lt. Lapsky has received
several awards during his career which include the Medal
of Honor and the Police Commendation Medal, He
also earned Officer of the Year with the Arcade Police
Department in 2000, and Officer of the Year with the
Auburn Police Department in 2001. He has received over
1000 hours of formal training, including specialized
training in Criminal Investigations, Internal Affairs
Investigations, Crime Scene Processing, Incident
Command, Police Counter Sniper and Firearms Instructor.
Lt. Lapsky currently serves the Auburn Police Dept. as
the Commander in charge of the Criminal Investigations
Division.
