Yes. We do not require that you provide any
personal information when registering your
complaint. Remember that all information you
choose to provide to the City, including names,
phone numbers, or email addresses, is subject to
the Public Record Laws. In other words, we must
provide this information to anyone who asks for
it. If you wish to remain completely anonymous,
do not provide your personal information.

Yes. The property owner is responsible.
What happens after I
receive a notice from the City to correct
neighborhood code violations?
The violator and/or property owner may have up
to 10 days to correct the violation or to appeal
the notice. Immediately dangerous situations
must be remedied right away.
Why should I be
responsible for upkeep at my property? My tenant
is responsible for the problems.
Property owners are ultimately responsible for
all repairs and upkeep to their properties.

The Auburn Police Department,
Code Enforcement Unit is a community oriented,
pro-active enforcement unit designed to improve
the quality of life for the residents of the
City of Auburn, through the use of state laws
and local ordinances.
This unit is responsible for the
inspection, enforcement and administration of
applying city ordinances to private property,
conducting on-site inspections and handling
administrative details. Work involves
making independent technical decisions enforcing
codes and ordinances to gain voluntary
compliance of the residents and business owners
with regards to city ordinances and enforce such
ordinances when voluntary compliance is not met.
Work is performed under the general supervision
of the CID Commander along with direction and
input from the City Planner.
The Auburn Police Department,
Code Enforcement Unit is also responsible for
handling individual ordinance complaints filed
by citizens of the city. Each complaint
addressed by the Auburn Police Department,
Code Enforcement Unit is handled by a uniform
inspection process, giving the resident,
landowner or business owner, ample time to bring
violations of city ordinances into compliance.

Enforcement Unit is to promote and
maintain a safe and desirable living and
working environment. We help maintain
and improve the quality of our community
by administering a fair and unbiased
enforcement program to correct
violations of municipal codes and land
use requirements.
The Code Enforcement Unitis charged with
handling community and neighborhood nuisances such as illegal
dumping, abandoned or inoperable vehicles,
and zoning violations.
The Code Enforcement Unit works to
improve the quality of life in Auburn's neighborhoods through
awareness, education and enforcement. Removal of illegally dumped
debris, or accumulated trash and junk from public and private
property is a primary function. Code Enforcement Officers are
responsible for abating zoning violations including unlawful use of
land, illegal fences and illegal camping in vehicles.
Common Code Violations
Illegal dumping of garbage on public or private
property.
Junk and debris, such as old furniture, car parts, appliances or
other visual nuisances.
Inoperable or abandoned vehicles on public
streets and private property.
Zoning requirement violations for structures and
land use requirements, including the use of the structure,
location, configuration and size.
The illegal placement of fences, located in the
front yards, street side yards, abutting alleys or other public
right-of-ways.
Parking vehicles on unimproved surfaces.
Unimproved surfaces can include but are not limited to: lawn,
dirt, gravel and plywood.
Maintenance of Property to include but are not
limited to: tall grass, accumulated trash, junk and debris, such
as car parts, old furniture, appliances or other visual
nuisances.
Housing and Dangerous Buildings
The Code Enforcement Unit enforces City and State
mandated codes relating to residential and commercial structures
that are dangerous, substandard, blighted, or vacant. This division
also enforces codes related to pests and mechanical noise. Building inspections are performed
for permit holders repairing or demolishing substandard structures.
Building owners are legally required to maintain
their property to the standards set forth in the City Codes. If a structure is to remain vacant the owner is required to
keep the property clean and secure.
Common Code Violations
Ceilings, roofs, vertical supports or other
horizontal support that sag, split or buckle.
Plumbing, electrical or mechanical hazards
creating a danger to human health.
Excessive infestations of rodents, cockroaches or
other vector violations.
Unsafe electrical outlets which present a clear
and present danger of fire or electrocution.
Un-inhabitable buildings due to a lack of care,
cleanliness, or sanitary conditions.
Defective or inadequate weather protection of
exterior walls.
