The purpose of the Auburn Police
Department Explorer Program is to provide area
youth an understanding of the role of law
enforcement and to encourage members to become
active in the community through service
projects.
Members are taught aspects of law
enforcement to not only understand what law
enforcement officers must deal with but also to
assist the Explorers in deciding if a career in
law enforcement is best for them.
Explorers are also taught
discipline, management, public speaking, and how
to effectively interact with various types of
people.
Membership Criteria
Must adhere to SOP and Post rules
at all times
Members must be between the ages
of 14-20.
Exploring is a co-ed
organization.
An application form must be
completed.
Parental permission slips and
medical forms must be kept up-to-date.
A grade of “C” is mandatory to
stay an active member.
Competitions
Each year, there are competitions
that post members are eligible to attend such as
the Gatlinburg, TN. Competition are held in
January and February of each year. There are
usually three law enforcement competitions in
addition to the other activities. These games
are usually very well attended.
Every even numbered year, the
post is eligible to compete in a national
competition. There are twelve team competitions
and several individual competitions for each
Explorer. In the past, the event has been held
in Arizona, Washington, D.C., and Indiana.
There are several thousand Explorers at this
event and it is the largest event in the
country. Readiness of the team to participate in
this competition will be a decision of the
advisors.
The basic building blocks of
Explorers to learn the many aspects of
Law Enforcement and the duties that they
perform.
These duties include but are not
limited to; Building Searches, Vehicle Stops,
Hostage Negotiation, Firearm Safety, Criminal
Law, Narcotics Law, Domestic Violence, Defensive
Tactics, Police Radio Techniques, Criminal
Justice System, Physical Fitness, First Aid,
Defensive Weapons, Traffic Law, Criminal
Investigation, Arrest, Search & Seizure,
Juvenile Law, use of K-9,
CPR and much, much more!

Department Explorer program is to build better
and more productive citizens for America. The
A.P.D. Explorer program is designed to meet the
following objectives.
Develop more responsible U.S.
citizens by learning about patriotism and
respect for authority
Promote
self-discipline, self-reliance, self-confidence,
and concern for a well-groomed appearance.
Develop
leadership and follower ship skills.
Promote
interest in the Police Department or another
branch of law enforcement as a career.
Encourage
members to become active in the community
through service projects.
