The most common case report request is for reports on lost or stolen
items. These reports generally don't need a lengthy follow up
investigation and can be released with few restrictions.
Case reports, which are still under investigation because of arrests
made or arrests pending, cannot be released until the
investigation is completed. Requests for these reports will be
referred to the Prosecutor's Office for further information.
Arrest Reports are the officer's notes on the arrest of a suspect. These reports will be released only after the suspect
arrested has gone to court and the case has been adjudicated by the
Courts.
To request copies of a report, go to the Downloadable Forms
link, or
Print the form, fill in all required information, and return the
form to the Records Manager at the Auburn Department Records
Division. In order to view the form on line you will Adobe
Acrobat Reader, which you can download for free on the Home Page
under 'How to Use This Site'.

Evidence Processing is a major function of this division and is the
area of the greatest liability for the department. The Records
Manager is the person primarily responsible for the handling and
processing of all evidence. Items taken and placed into evidence
for safekeeping, or as evidence in a case, are releasable back to
the owner, only after the case has been adjudicated.
This does not include items of an illegal nature. People who want
to get these items back will need to contact the Records Manager to
find out if there items are available for release.
Firearms that are placed into evidence are handled differently. In
order to claim a firearm, you will be required to show proof of
ownership of the firearm and pass a Criminal Background check, as
required under the Brady Bill.
Special Note:
In order to process any of the above requests, a Case Number is
required. This case number is usually provided by the officer who
responded to the call and/or case.
